I got involved in youth bowling when my son wanted to bowl. I was told that, to coach in the program, I had to be “certified” through YABA. In typical overachiever fashion, I ended up with six certifications as a bowling coach and a tremendous amount of enjoyment, teaching youth bowling.
Actually, my involvement with youth sports started as a Little League umpire when I was 16. Along the way, I have been an umpire, a youth soccer referee, a baseball coach, and a bowling coach.
I also was a substitute teacher in a local school district. This combination of activities has occasionally added some stress to the lives of the young men and women I coach.

They see me in their classroom- again.
“Coach, last week you taught social studies?”
“Yes.”
“And now you’re teaching math?”
“Yes.”
And you umpired my Little League game?”
“Yes.”
Then, that weekend, they see me in the grocery store.
I’ve seen that look before. It’s, “Good grief, he’s everywhere!”
