Roger actually is a writer, with my latest book just released on July 31, 2022. In high school yearbook, under my picture, I listed my goals as "Mathematician, Writer." I ended up with a 30-year career in Information Technology, which, back in the early days of computing was called Data Processing. Along the way, I wrote training materials, an article published in a technical journal, a book on software testing, a couple of newsletters, two monthly columns, and a number of cartoons and cartoon strips. In one sense, I actually fulfilled my high school aspirations. That is unusual enough. Usually, you see entries like "Doctor" or "Lawyer." And that classmate ends up as "Insurance Agent."
As a teenager, I wanted to write science fiction. I even submitted a few stories to the leading SF magazines of the day, and had the stories just as quickly returned with a form letter saying they were not what they could use at the time. That's editor-speak for "they aren't very good."
As things turned out, I had a long involvement in youth sports, became a bowling coach, and wrote a humor column on bowling for a number of years. It was that column that I turned into my first book, My Angle to the Pocket. The illustrations in the book are also mine.
But I have these ideas...
I have plans for other books. One will be a second bowling how-to. For the others, how about a children's book, several historical mysteries in my current series, and, yes, some science fiction.
So look for books by Roger L. Thomas. I have provided excerpts from the books, published and in progress, and links to booksellers like Amazon, where you can purchase them.
About me, personally.
I am married, have two grown children and a great son-in-law. And my daughter and son in law have presented Becky and me with a granddaughter and a grandson. All of us live in and around Colorado Springs, Colorado. That in itself is a bit of an irony, since SF writer Robert Heinlein lived in Colorado Springs in the 1950s. And cartoonist Charles Schulz had a connection to the city. In fact, the lady on which his "little red-haired girl" is based lived in Colorado Springs.
Life is good.
